According to the "Regulations on Biosafety Management of Pathogen Microbiology Laboratories," in order to strengthen biosafety management in pathogen microbiology laboratories and protect the health of laboratory staff and the public, the Suzhou Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs conducted a special inspection on November 2, 2022, focusing on the "Animal Pathogen Microbiology Laboratory"—a Level 2 biosafety laboratory—at Suzhou Xishan Technology Co., Ltd.
Animal pathogen microbiology laboratory biosafety is critical to controlling animal diseases, safeguarding the health of lab personnel and the public, and ensuring public health security. It is an essential component of national biosecurity and a highly important task that must be given top priority. This initiative will help strengthen everyone's biosafety awareness, identify and address any gaps, and ultimately ensure safety. Laboratories must take this biosafety inspection seriously, reinforcing the implementation of the biosafety responsibility system, strictly adhering to national laws and regulations, focusing on key areas to maintain safety, and further enhancing the overall standard of biosafety management.
This time, the laboratory underwent a comprehensive inspection through on-site checks, document reviews, assessments of the biosafety system, verification of the implementation of laboratory biosecurity measures, examination of the lab's activities involving high-pathogenicity animal pathogens, evaluation of emergency preparedness plans and their execution, review of procedures for preserving and disposing of microbial (toxin) strains and samples, assessment of biosecurity training provided to laboratory staff, and scrutiny of the lab's record-keeping and archival management practices.
This inspection affirmed the work our laboratory has done in biosecurity management, while also highlighting existing issues and offering recommendations for improvement.
